Almost Here: New Kits
By: Paul | July 6th, 2009
Maybe it’s just that I love new kit porn but I am pretty pumped up about Athletic’s new kits which will be officially presented on Wednesday.
Athletic Club Bilbao and Umbro reached an agreement earlier this year that will make Umbro the official kit supplier for Athletic for the next four seasons. Then, just a few days ago, Umbro and Athletic Club launched a blog that has been carrying teasers of next year’s kits.
Of course, so far everything looks good, but there are only portions that are visible. I am optimistic, though. Athletic Club always has had class kits and now that they’re made by Umbro, I’m hoping that they’ll be more available. Further, Umbro has done a great lately with good examples of their work being kits for Sweden, England, and Sunderland (although that sponsor logo looks way out of place). Anyway, until Wednesday, if you love kit porn as much as me check out the blog above- I’ll be back in a few days once we’ve seen the full kits.

I like the old school look that Umbro has been going for lately. That + Athletic Bilbao’s undeniably cool badge should = a winner.

Based on the teaser pictures, I quite like the new kits. I must admit, I wasn’t too pleased to learn that someone else would be making them (I quite like things kept 100% Athletic) but I suppose if it can’t be avoided then Umbro would be good.
Speaking of kits, I’d like to see the special edition “ketchup stain” kits back again. I might be the only one in the world who liked the look of them.

No leaked pictures as of yet, I’ve looked but can’t find one. I guess Athletic is one of those teams that people don’t go out of their way to uncover the kits beforehand. Also, and this may just be me, but it seems like Umbro has done a good job at keeping their designs under wraps until release.
And as Daryl said, those are my thoughts exactly- Athletic has always had good designs (except the blob design- sorry Isabel) and Umbro has done well with the “classic” look lately. That’s something that should go very well with Athletic’s style.
