Dreaming of Intertoto….

Injury Update aka Woe is Me!

Along with Gorka, Orbaiz, Ocio, Muñoz, Ustaritz and Yeste - Exteberria and Susaeta are doubtful vs Mallorca. Uggh! On a positive note, Koikili and Del Horno have recuperated and available this weekend.

Oh and my man of the match vs El Madrid - Iraola.

Last dash run!

OK we’re at home this weekend, but our next four games are extremely tough:

Mallorca at home
Murcia away
Racing at home
Sevilla away

Scary! The middle of the table is so tight, every game is a final! The Intertoto is still a possibility, but our competition - Depor, Getafe, Zaragoza (forget Zara), and Espanyol could possibly end the league ahead of us and qualify instead of us. This is the last year of the Intertoto, so ya gotta go for it. Imagine Los Leones back in Europe? Still pie in the sky. Our attacking prowess isn’t there. Llorente is our top scorer with 9 goals. We have zero Goal differential which is not that great. Our defense is our saving grace, but lately we really have been missing Ocio. If we can win our home games and draw away? Sounds cliche, but there is a chance…

Transfer Chisme

Marca is predicting a clear out of 7 players - Aranzubia, Cuellar, Prieto, Casas, Exposito, Murillo and Zubiiaurre. Well I actually I do like Cuellar and Murillo, but no love lost. They can all go. We need new blood. Damn Villarreal looks like they grabbed Joseba Llorente from Valladolid. Damn Pellegrini! Well here’s too our great scouting network and academies!

Playing for Charity

Our man, Aitor Ocio has been invited to play football for charity benefit, Champions for Africa on May 13th. This organization fights hunger and starvation in Africa. Aitor joins Drogba, Essien, Adebayor, Eto’o and Freddy Kanoute, the organizer of the event. Kudos Aitor! I hope he is fit and available to play for this worthy cause.

I’m going to leave you with another Bilbao-toon which compares the first half of the season and the second half of the season.

Hasta Luego!

So you know, if Athletic fills the Intertoto Cup spot they would play against the winner of the Croatian Qualifier vs the Macedonian Qualifier in the first round, who would then go on to face off against the Israeli Qualifier in the second round. The winner of the second round match-up would face off against the Spanish qualifier. Still, some lucky breaks need to be had for Athletic to tie down that Intertoto spot.
