Gameday: Athletic Club-Tromso

By: Paul | August 20th, 2009

Today Athletic will be taking on Norway’s Tromso in the next round of this year’s European escapades. Once again, I will not be around come game time, but this will act as an area to post comments and impressions before, during, and after the match. The game begins at 3pm Houston time, 10pm Bilbao time.

Athletic Squad: Iraizoz, Toquero, Ustaritz, Amorebieta, David López, Llorente, Yeste, Armando, Susaeta, Iraola, Etxeberria, Aitor Ocio, Ion Vélez, Castillo, Javi Martínez, Iturraspe, Muniain and De Marcos.

Just for kicks, here are some predictions. Go ahead and make your own.

My XI Prediction:

Iraizoz
Iraola, Ocio, Amorebieta, Castillo
Susaeta, De Marcos, Javi Martínez, Yeste
Llorente, Munian (Munian is a stretch to start, but there’s been a lot of buzz around him lately.)

Score Prediction: Athletic haven’t impressed lately, especially against weaker teams. However, they are playing this game at home and coming off a decent game against Barcelona. I expect them to pick it up a bit and win 2-0. Llorente is going to show up today and score both of those.

Hey… we just don’t like it if it’s uncomplicated, do we? Tromso just scored.

YES! I turn on the stream and two quick goals. Annoying giving away valuable away goals, but the fight back has greatly increased my confidence.

Missed the last two goals. Couldn’t take the pain anymore and turned the laptop off! Seen the De Marcos goal now and it was truly stunning.

Sadly, the first half was shockingly poor and our defending was shambolic. That said, De Marcos and Muniain look good. Llorente seems to be waking up a little too and Toquero (even though I don’t rate him) gave some energy to the team.
