Loan-ly Loaners
By: Paul | August 14th, 2009
Two new loan deals have now been made by Athletic- one coming in and another going out.
First, Ander Murillo is out on loan to Salamanca. Unfortunately, he has hardly gotten any playing time during his stint with Athletic thus far, and I think he’s a decent player so hopefully he either proves himself there and comes back strong, or his loan is made permanent and he’s able to play regularly for Salamanca.
Coming in is former Lezama defender Mikel San José, on loan from Liverpool. He moved to Liverpool in 2007 after time in Athletic’s youth setup, but has yet to break into the first team there. I think he’s pretty good as well. Athletic has an option to buy him (which expires on June 30, 2010) and I’m hopeful that the kid proves himself worthy and sticks around. He was apparently part of the Spain team that won the 2007 UEFA U-19 Championship and has moved on to the U-21 team. This is probably where Rafa Benitez dug him up, but let’s not talk about Rafa Benitez.
Anyway, sorry I haven’t been around with any other updates. A friend has been in town from Chicago so I’ve been hanging out with him. Tomorrow I’ll post a new “Caption This!” with last week’s winner, so if you haven’t already, feel free to post any possible captions before the unveiling of the winner.
Then Sunday is the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona. I’ll probably be live blogging that on Sunday, so stay tuned. Till then, just know that Barcelona are a scary team, but Fernando Amorebieta seems rather confident.
