Shedding Dead Weight

Today, Athletic and Iñigo Velez agreed to rescind the player’s contract,and Velez has moved on to Numancia. I saw this coming with the De Cerio signing,and, honestly, I don’t even know why we had signed him in the first place. He was less than spectacular for the lower league clubs he played for and only wore the red and white in four league matches for Athletic. He was a piece of the team Los Leones really can do without and hopefully shedding him will make some room for another striker. Hopefully, Athletic opens the damn wallet and shells out Joseba Llorente’s €15 million buyout clause, but that seems doubtful- the word on the streets is that Athletic are going after Numancia’s Asier Goiri- who scored a whopping 5 goals in 32 games for a team that was relegated.
Joaquín Caparrós is not Arsène Wenger, he can’t turn every unknown player into a star- it’s time we buy an established player at a position that needs just that.
